These are the ruins of a Cistercian monastery called “Margam Abbey” located in South Wales. The Monastery was founded in 1147, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Much like the Amish, the Order of Cistercians that occupied this monastery believed in living a simple life by doing manual labour through agriculture. Interestingly, the monks attempted to live their lives as monks had in Saint Benedict’s time. Follow up posts coming soon.
